This Week Is At…

Bethel! This is going to be our last week of Summer MOMs. We’ll take one week off, and then on the 15th it’s back to Bethel for the fall program! The committee is just finalizing the schedule and the communications coordinator (me) is procrastinating a bit, but we’ll have the fall schedule on the website soon.

Also, can you believe that this Thursday is SEPTEMBER FIRST? For any of you whose babies are starting preschool, kindergarten, or heading into a new year of school very soon, I wish you calm nerves and good teachers, or at least the ability to hide your glee until they’re safely in the classroom. See you Thursday, either this week or on the 15th!

Heidi’s park! Well, she doesn’t actually OWN it but it’s right by her house. There’s a wading pool that opens at 11 as well as a playground, so bring swim stuff if you want (and it’s still hot).

Fall Tease

We are SO excited about everything we’ve been working on for Bethel MOMs this fall…

It was sad to see Leanne + Corinna leave our committee – and we are so grateful for their amazing contributions over the last couple of years – but our new team is excited and ready to get things started! We’ve welcomed three new members (Erinne, Heidi, and Coralee) and we’ll introduce our committee and talk a little bit more about our roles for 2011/2012 soon.

We’re just putting the finishing touches on our Fall 2011 schedule. And it’s chock full of AWESOME. Stay tuned for lots more exciting MOMs news coming over the next couple of weeks!

In the meantime, be sure to squeeze all the family fun you can out of these precious last few weeks of summer. I know my head is already in fall (and beyond… I ordered a new snowsuit for B this weekend!) but there’s a little bit of summer left – and I don’t want to miss it.

10 Ways We Misunderstand Children

I read this article a few months ago, and it really stuck with me. Rereading it this morning, I realized that it’s probably a good reminder for ALL of us.

10 Ways We Misunderstand Children

Number 3 was a game-changer for me. I realize that my daughter is RARELY defiant, even in all her two year old glory. Yesterday’s meltdown looked like pure two year old attitude, and ended up having everything to do with her being thirsty. It has really become a bit of a detective game for me to figure out where her attitude is coming from, and trying to ‘solve’ it that way. And approaching it that way helps me stay more calm, more often.

What do you think? Which of these points resonate with you?

Assiniboine Park! We need to have another go at the fancy-pants new playground. Hopefully it won’t be quite as swarmed as last time, when it was brand-new, but don’t hold your breath! Bring your sunscreen, as it’s not terribly shaded. See you soon!

Bethel!

We’ll be meeting in the Lower Lounge to sit, play, drink coffee, and generally escape the heat we all waited for + whined about all winter long (hehe). I’m planning to be there by 9.45.

The church isn’t used as often in summer, so security’s a little bit tighter. If the main doors to the church are locked, please use the buzzer near the far left doors to identify yourself as part of our MOMs group and someone will let you in.
