Koats for Kids – a Winnipeg non-profit that takes donations of new or gently used winter clothing + accessories and gives them to local kids in need – has issued a pretty desperate cry for help. They’ve received their highest number of applicants ever. And right now, at the beginning of December, they’re running out of warm winter gear to supply to kids who need them.
I heard about this and decided to make it our family’s advent activity for today. We headed over to The Baby Bin Boutique (1444 Corydon Avenue / www.babybin.ca) to pick up some gently used mittens, hats, and scarves. Almost everything was either 25% or 50% off the already awesome prices. And when we went to pay, Jenn (the owner) let us know that they are actually an unofficial drop-off point for Koats for Kids. She makes regular donations to the organization – last year, Baby Bin donated 180 winter coats(!). So I was able to just leave our donation right at the store and saved myself a trip to another drop-off point.
AWESOME. Especially with a toddler in tow! And I thought that other moms should know about this fabulous option to help out in a really simple way.
