We’ve been receiving some questions (especially from some of our new moms) and I thought I’d post some of the answers here in case anyone out there is wondering the same thing!
Q: Do I need to sign up ahead of time?
A: Absolutely not! Just show up at 9 AM on Thursday and we’ll take care of all the paperwork on the spot. You’ll be asked to fill out a quick Registration Form that includes info on you + your kids. You’ll hand over some money to Megan (cash or cheque, and either $25 for the full Fall Session or $4 for the morning). And then you’ll sign in your kids if you’re dropping them off with our volunteer caregivers (after the first time, it will be a checklist you can just initial).
And please don’t worry about where to go… Our registration table will be set up right at the front doors of the church, and we’ll have committee members on hand to help you find the caregiver rooms and the place where the moms meet.
Q: What if I don’t want to leave my new baby in the nursery?
A: Our group is super-flexible when it comes to childcare… For new babies in particular, our moms often choose to keep them downstairs with us instead of in the nursery – and that is 100% okay. It’s not disruptive at all (we’re all pretty used to tuning out ‘kid noise’ – or are excited for the opportunity to hold someone else’s baby). We always have a handful of babies – and sometimes a few older kids – with us, especially at the beginning of the year when it’s new to everyone.
Q: How does the childcare work?
A: We have three childcare rooms set up with volunteers who love + play with our kids while we’re meeting. The nursery is for kids under 2 years old and it’s located on the second floor of the church. There are separate rooms for 2/3 year olds and 4/5 year olds in the church basement. Use your best judgment to decide where your child will be happiest. The ages we use to label each room are flexible. It’s more important to use that your kids are HAPPY while they’re here.
When you drop off your kids, please introduce yourself to one of the caregivers in the room and give them any special instructions. We also ask that you put a nametag on your child’s back with their name + any special instructions (ie. needs a bottle at 10 AM or is currently potty training or is deathly allergic to X). We’re not fancy… You can put a nametag on at home, or there’s always a roll of masking tape + a sharpie marker in the room for you to use.
Q: Is there anything I need to bring for my child?
A: Nothing specific… For babies, you can label your diaper bag and leave it in the nursery (there’s a roll of masking tape + a sharpie marker there for you to use). For the 2/3 and 4/5 rooms, please send along a labelled water bottle or sippy cup for them to use. Snack is provided for the kids.
